A 14-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of two pupils and a teacher following a knife attack in a form class at a school in Manchester.
Court Appearance
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via videolink at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday. She faces three counts of attempted murder and two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises. She spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address.
District Judge Briony Clarke told the defendant: "Because of the seriousness of the charges that you face, I have to send this matter to the crown court."
Investigation and Next Steps
Counter Terrorism Police are investigating the alleged attack, though it has not been declared a terrorist incident at this stage. The teenager will next appear at the Old Bailey on June 19 and has been remanded to youth detention accommodation in the meantime.
Victims' Condition
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that two pupils, both aged 14, and a male member of staff, aged 27, were hurt during the incident at a north Manchester school on Tuesday morning. All three have since been discharged from hospital and are said to have sustained no serious injuries, GMP confirmed.
