A 40-year-old sex worker has been accused of murder after allegedly performing a satanic ritual on a man whose dismembered remains were found in rubbish bins near an industrial estate in Germany's Rhine-Main region. The victim's body parts were discovered in February this year.
Victim Chosen at Random
The sex worker is reported to have chosen her alleged victim at random. The man's identity and age have not been made public, but it is understood he was "middle aged."
Darmstadt public prosecutor's office has accused the woman of killing the man in a satanic ritual. A few days after police found the man's body, they arrested the woman, who was crossing Germany's border with Poland on foot.
Witness Account and Court Proceedings
A witness told the German outlet Bild that one of the buildings near where the remains were found functions as a brothel. The witness stated: "Every now and then, gentlemen appear asking where they have to ring the bell for a massage appointment."
In July, a statement from the Darmstadt prosecutor's office shed light on the ongoing court proceedings. The prosecutor's office stated: "She is suspected of murder." It added: "Based on the investigation, the prosecution believes that the suspect, who was allegedly involved in prostitution, killed a randomly selected man, presumably as part of a Satanic ritual."
Precautionary Proceedings Filed
Last month, an application was filed with the Darmstadt Regional Court in precautionary proceedings. These proceedings are conducted when there is suspicion that a suspect who committed the crime can only be guilty to a limited extent or not at all, possibly due to a mental illness. Investigators have not revealed any more details surrounding the alleged fatal satanic ritual.
