Hollywood star Rebel Wilson has been accused of orchestrating a cyber-attack on the social media account of fellow actor Charlotte MacInnes, leading to the leak of a nude photo. The allegation comes as part of a defamation lawsuit filed by MacInnes against Wilson in the Federal Court of Australia.
MacInnes, the lead actor in Wilson's directorial debut film The Deb, claims that her Snapchat account was breached and an attempt was made to hack her Facebook account days after she filed legal proceedings in September 2025. In an affidavit, she stated, 'I believe that this was orchestrated by Rebel. It was completely terrifying and caused me a new kind of anxiety.' No evidence has been presented to support the claim, and Wilson has not yet been questioned about the hack.
The defamation case centres on four social media posts in which Wilson allegedly claimed that MacInnes made a sexual harassment complaint and then retracted it to further her career. MacInnes said the posts left her crying every day for weeks, feeling as though Wilson was 'ripping me apart and showing it off to the world.' She described Wilson's actions as bullying and intimidation, adding that it was 'heartbreaking' to see people believing the narrative that painted her as a 'liar, prostitute, sell out, and whore.'
The dispute stems from an incident in September 2023, when MacInnes helped film co-producer Amanda Ghost after a medical episode at Bondi Beach. The pair shared a bath in their swimwear to warm up. Wilson claimed MacInnes had confided that she felt uncomfortable, but MacInnes denies making a complaint. Ghost told the court she was shocked when Wilson suggested a complaint had been made, and that MacInnes later said there were 'zero issues.' Ghost initially believed Wilson but later changed her mind after meeting MacInnes in person.
MacInnes said she decided not to attend the premiere of The Deb because she did not feel safe around Wilson. She continues to feel unsafe in the industry, stating, 'Rebel is so well known and I do not yet feel I have enough of a voice to fight back.' The case continues.
