A homeless man has appeared in court charged with the double murder of a pregnant woman and her partner in Melbourne's south-east. Ross Judd, 34, is accused of killing 39-year-old Athena Georgopoulos and a 50-year-old man at a home in Mount Waverley on Monday night.
During a brief hearing at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the police prosecutor requested a 10-week extension for investigators to prepare a brief of evidence, citing the complexity of the crime scene and the need for DNA analysis. The prosecutor noted that one of the victims was pregnant, which had contributed to delays in autopsies.
Judd's defence lawyer, Annie Allan, said it was her client's first time in custody and asked that he see a prison nurse for medication follow-up. Judd, who wore a black T-shirt and had a short black beard and mohawk hairstyle, nodded when asked if he understood the next court date.
Police were called to the property at 9.20pm on Monday after a neighbour heard yelling. A second call indicated the incident was more urgent, and officers arrived at 9.50pm to find the two bodies. Judd was later arrested at Westall railway station, about 6km away, with two large dogs.
In a Facebook tribute translated from Greek, Georgopoulos's mother expressed her grief, saying her daughter was due to give birth in four months. 'These last days you were so happy, we dreamed together about our granddaughter... and suddenly all was extinguished in one night,' she wrote.
Judd is next due to appear via video link on 13 January 2026.
