Pregnant North Wales mum 'taken in most horrific way' brought 'special light' into lives
Pregnant mum 'taken in most horrific way' remembered by friends

Friends of a pregnant mum found dead in a burning van in Prestatyn, North Wales, have paid tribute to her as someone who "brought her own special light into the lives of those around her". Samantha Natalie Phythian, known to close friends and family as Sammi, was found in the van last week. A post-mortem examination revealed she was pregnant at the time of her death.

Friends launch fundraiser

With the permission of her family, friends have started a fundraiser to give Sammi the "send off she deserves". Maryjane Haggerty, who launched the appeal, said: "We are heartbroken to be writing these words following the tragic loss of our beautiful Samantha Natalie Phythian known to those closest to her as Sammi, whose life was taken in the most horrific way possible."

"Sammi was an outgoing, lively, and full-of-life personality who brought her own special light into the lives of those around her. She was someone who could make an impression, bring energy into a room, and leave memories that will stay with the people who knew and loved her forever."

Family's tribute

In their own tribute on Friday, Sammi's family said: "Her tragic and untimely death has left her family and friends devastated, struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone who meant so much to so many. No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a loved one in such circumstances."

Thomas Matthew Hammond Bell, 38, of Wellington Road, Rhyl, has been charged with murder and will stand trial next year. A second man was also arrested in connection with Sammi's death on Friday, reports North Wales Live.

Police appeal

North Wales Police Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley, the senior investigating officer, said: "My thoughts are with Sammi's family and friends. I would also urge the community to be careful of commenting anything which would add to the family's distress or interfere with the ongoing active legal proceedings."

A police spokesperson added: "Anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation is asked to contact us via our live webchat or on 101 quoting ref, 26000816112."
