Pickford pleads guilty to careless driving in Lamborghini
Pickford guilty of careless driving in Lamborghini

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to careless driving after a police officer said he nearly caused a crash in his £200,000 Lamborghini supercar. The 32-year-old Everton player was pulled over after allegedly ignoring a give-way sign in Knutsford, Cheshire, on April 14, forcing two vehicles to brake sharply before accelerating away.

Officer's account of the incident

Court documents reveal that Pc Cecil Ricardo, of Cheshire Police, said he had just left the station when he spotted Pickford's blue Lamborghini Urus, complete with personalised number plates. "I was stationary on Bexton Road, Knutsford, waiting for traffic signals to turn green," he wrote. "I then witnessed a blue Lamborghini Urus driving along Princess Street."

"It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision," the officer added. "The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road, Knutsford."

Chase and guilty plea

Pc Ricardo stated that he activated his lights and siren before giving chase, observing he was travelling at 50mph while the Lamborghini "was still pulling away". The officer noted: "The speed limit on that stretch of Toft Road, Knutsford, is 30mph." He said Pickford appeared to spot the pursuing police vehicle and stopped.

Pickford entered a guilty plea in writing through the Single Justice Procedure and informed Warrington Magistrates Court: "I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation." His case was postponed last week pending a hearing at Chester Magistrates' Court on December 7.

Career background

Pickford, who began his career at Sunderland before temporary stints at six clubs including Burton Albion, Bradford City and Preston North End, has made 336 appearances for Everton and earned 92 England caps. He has represented England at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups, and was in goal for the nation's Euro 2020 and 2024 finals.
