Jack Appleton, 19, from Newcastle, has admitted causing the death of Andrew Robson, a 29-year-old motorcyclist, by dangerous driving. The plea was entered at Teesside Crown Court on Monday.
Fatal crash in Murton
Andrew Robson died following a four-vehicle collision on Spring Road in Murton on September 22, 2024, shortly after 7.30pm. Paramedics performed CPR at the scene, but he was pronounced dead soon after.
Appleton, who was 17 at the time of the crash, was arrested and later charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared in court facing the single charge and pleaded guilty.
Sentencing date set
Judge Francis Laird KC has scheduled sentencing for Monday, October 12. Appleton, of Coach Lane, Hazelrigg, Newcastle, remains in custody until then.
Tribute to 'loving dad'
In a tribute after the crash, Andrew's partner Danielle described him as her "handsome man" and the "best thing that ever happened to me and the girls". She said: "I can't believe I am even writing this as I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be saying goodbye to you. That is something I thought would happen when we were old."
Danielle also noted Andrew's impact on the local car and biker scene, saying: "You weren’t just my best friend, soulmate, and partner, but you were also a loving son, dad, brother, and grandson. We made some of the most amazing memories together, and everyone who had you in their lives will miss you."
