Saief Rehman, 33, has pleaded guilty to drug-driving and threatening a person with an offensive weapon after he armed himself with a baseball bat on Westgate Road in Newcastle.
Rehman was in possession of the bat when he made threats to a man on May 26 last year. Months later, on January 29 this year, he was caught driving a BMW on Adelaide Terrace in Newcastle while he had benzoylecgonine in his system. Benzoylecgonine, commonly referred to as BZE, is a metabolite produced when the liver breaks down cocaine.
Court appearance and plea
On Wednesday, Rehman, of Wingrove Road North, Fenham, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court charged with both offences. He pleaded guilty to the two charges.
The full details of the offences were not opened in court, and the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.
Bail and interim driving ban
Rehman will return to the court on Friday, September 18 for sentencing. He was given unconditional bail until his next appearance, and magistrates also imposed an interim driving ban.
