A murder investigation has been launched in Tameside after a 61-year-old woman was found dead at a house in Mossley. A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail.
Emergency services called to Winterford Road
Police and paramedics were called to the property on Winterford Road at around 5.25pm on Tuesday, August 4. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At approximately 5.25pm on Tuesday, August 4, we were called to a concern for welfare at an address on Winterford Road, Mossley. Emergency services attended and sadly a woman, aged 61, was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no wider risk to the public."
Neighbours describe 'movie-like' scene
One neighbour described the response as "like something from a movie" and said they had been unable to sleep since learning of the death. They said the ambulance service arrived first, followed by a significant emergency response.
Another neighbour claimed a relative had arrived at the property five days before police attended, carrying out what they called a 'welfare check', but was not allowed entry. On Tuesday, they saw police crime scene investigation vans and officers in white boiler suits entering the address.
Investigation ongoing
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish the circumstances of the woman's death. The man, aged 60, has been bailed pending further enquiries.
