A glamour model was allegedly murdered and dismembered by her ex-in-laws after she attempted to sell the £5.75 million luxury apartment she had bought them, a court has heard. Influencer Abby Choi, 28, who regularly mixed with the fashion elite in Paris, is said to have funded the extravagant lifestyle of her ex-husband's family despite the couple divorcing.
Trial of ex-husband and in-laws
Her ex-husband Alex Kwong, 31, along with his retired police officer father Kwong Kau, 68, and brother Anthony, 35, are currently on trial in Hong Kong accused of her murder. Police discovered the remains of the mother-of-four at a suburban flat in February 2023. Her legs were reportedly stashed inside a fridge, while her skull and ribs were found in a large pot of vegetable soup on the stove.
The court heard how relations broke down when Abby tried to sell the multi-million pound home she had purchased in her former father-in-law's name to avoid stamp duty. She planned to relocate them near her children's school, triggering terrifying death threats.
Family accused of 'repaying kindness with enmity'
Abby's heartbroken mother, Cheung Yin-fa, told the High Court her daughter branded her ex-in-law an "old crook", "scum" and a "stinking b******", while deeming her former mother-in-law "ungrateful". She added that the freeloading family had "not even bought a can of baby milk for their grandchildren" or treated them to lunch.
Speaking in court, her emotional mother said: "My daughter was truly good, so filial and well-behaved. She trusted the wrong people. This family repaid kindness with enmity."
Chain of events leading to disappearance
Prosecutors said the accused went on a shopping spree for gruesome tools, including a meat mincer, just days before the socialite vanished. Abby disappeared on February 21, 2023, after getting into a car driven by her ex-brother-in-law, who she had hired as her personal chauffeur. Her ex-husband was allegedly waiting in the back seat armed with a hammer.
Neighbours later reported hearing the horrific whir of an electric chainsaw coming from the ground-floor property, followed by a foul smell. Prosecutors say the grim racket and stench were linked to the family's alleged attempt to dismember and destroy her body.
The trial heard Abby had two children with her ex-husband after meeting him at school, before having two more with restaurateur partner Chris Tam Fong-chun. Despite moving on, she continued to bankroll her ex-husband's family, even purchasing them another property and luxury gifts. Alex and Anthony Kwong have admitted preventing the lawful burial of a body, but all three men deny murder. The trial continues.
