Masked gang jailed for brutal murder of Dale Martin, 21

CCTV footage has captured the moment a gang of masked men ambushed 21-year-old Dale Martin, shouting "kill him, kill him" before stabbing him to death in Derby. Six men were jailed on Thursday for the attack, described as a "brutal, planned and sustained attack".

Attack on Stenson Road

Dale Martin was murdered on Stenson Road in Derby on June 15, 2025. He was dragged from his car before being stabbed by a group armed with swords, machetes and Rambo knives. The gang surrounded the 21-year-old after hunting him down following a "tit for tat" row between rival groups.

CCTV showed the gang surrounding Martin after he was dragged from his Renault Megane. The group formed a barricade with their electric bikes before chopping at the victim's head, chest and back as he fell to the ground trying to escape.

Sentences handed down

Jayden Mannion-Roberts, 26, was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years for murder. Five others, all from Derby, were found guilty of manslaughter and jailed at the same hearing.

Ki Grant-Finlayson, 23, was handed an 18-year jail term with a three-year extended licence on release for playing a "leading role" in the ambush. Keenan Hamblett, 27, was sentenced to 17-and-a-half years, and Shaylon McCalla, 27, of Copes Way, to 18 years behind bars with a three-year extended licence.

Judge Gregory Dickinson KC also handed "enthusiastic participants" in the attack, Kayin Holmes, 25, 15 years, and Kelci Thompson, 19, 10 years, to be served in a young offenders institution.

Police response

Police body-cam footage showed two members of the group being arrested in their underwear at home and two others at Gatwick Airport.

Detective Sergeant Chris Wright, of Derbyshire Police, said after the case: "Dale Martin lost his life in a brutal, sustained and planned attack." He added: "They set out that night, armed with knives and with the intent to kill Dale - with those words 'kill him, kill him' shouted at the scene of the murder. His family now know who is responsible for his death and, while nothing will take away the trauma of losing a son, brother, and friend in such a way, they will now see those responsible face the consequences of their actions."

He thanked the family for their support during the investigation and for the manner in which they conducted themselves during "what has been a long and extremely difficult trial".
