Man in court after suspected knife attack in Gateshead

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a suspected knife attack in Gateshead.

Police were called to Eastbourne Avenue in Bensham just after 9pm on Monday after reports of a disturbance. A man in his 30s was found with life-threatening injuries to his chest and arm, consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

Victim in stable condition

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Anthony Dodd, 26, of Avalon Drive, Newcastle, was arrested and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court today and was remanded in custody.

Next court appearance

Dodd will next appear in court on September 2.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Just after 9pm on Monday (August 3), we received a report of a disturbance on at an address on Eastbourne Avenue in the Bensham area of Gateshead. Emergency services attended and a man in his 30s was found with life-threatening injuries to his chest and arm consistent with having been caused by a bladed article."

"He was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains in a stable condition."

Appeal for information

The spokesperson added: "Twenty-six-year-old Anthony Dodd, of Avalon Drive, Newcastle, was swiftly arrested has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this morning (Wednesday) and was remanded in custody following his next appearance on September 2."
