Police in Northern Ireland are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside a burning car in Portadown on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the Harford Street area of the County Armagh town.
Details of the incident
The fire was reported at approximately 10pm, and firefighters extinguished the blaze. A spokesperson for the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the man's body was located inside the vehicle.
Chief Inspector Tierney stated: "Sadly, we can confirm the body of a man was located inside the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene – and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine the cause of death."
Investigation and appeal
Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) were also tasked to the scene to conduct relevant enquiries, and it was confirmed that there is no risk to the public. Significant damage was caused to the car, as well as a number of windows smashed and scorch damage observed to a neighbouring property.
The circumstances surrounding what happened are still under investigation, and enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1764 08/08/26.
