Abdul Shinwari, 24, of no fixed abode, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, non-fatal strangulation and possession with intent to supply. He was remanded into custody following the charges.
Incident near Piccadilly Gardens
The charges relate to an incident reported to have happened near Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre at around 1.30am on Tuesday July 14. The victim is a 17-year-old girl.
Court appearance and ongoing support
Shinwari will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday August 25 2026. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that specialist safeguarding officers are continuing to support the victim.
