Christopher Ryan Rice, 35, has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of nine-year-old Minnie Merriman in Arbroath. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.
Court appearance
Rice, of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court on Wednesday, August 5. The case was committed for further examination, and he is expected to reappear in court within eight days.
Minnie died after being found seriously injured at Elliot Industrial Estate in Angus at 12.02am on Monday, August 3. She was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but tragically passed away later.
Other incidents
In other news, fugitive sex offender John Rocks, 37, was arrested in Madrid on August 1. He is wanted by Police Scotland for offences committed between 2012 and 2022 and was on the National Crime Agency's Most Wanted list.
Mark "Bruni" Brown, president of the Mad Dogs Motorcycle Club, said he and fellow bikers were attacked with swords and bats on the M74 near Lesmahagow. He described the attackers as "cowardly cardboard gangster puppets" and vowed to fight on.
Osarenkhoe Atutie, 26, was jailed for attempted murder after stabbing his ex-wife Victory Atutie 12 times in Leith. She suffered a collapsed lung but survived after members of the public intervened.
Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, appeared in court in Athens over the death of Scots charity worker Elisabeth-Jane Ross, whose body was found in a suitcase in a derelict building.
