A man has been charged with murder after a body was found in a car in east London near a nursery. Sergiu Leahu, 40, of no fixed address, was charged with the murder of Masum Miah, 42, who was found with gunshot wounds in a car in East Ham on August 18.
Police called to reports of gunshots
Officers were called to reports of gunshots on St Bartholomew’s Road at about 3am, where Mr Miah was pronounced dead at the scene. Leahu will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, who is leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Masum’s family as they come to terms with his tragic death.”
Appeal for witnesses and footage
“We are continuing to appeal to anyone with information that could assist our inquiries to come forward. We are specifically appealing for anyone who saw a black Nissan Duke in the vicinity of St Bartholomew’s Road between the evening of Monday August 17 and the early hours of Tuesday August 18.”
St Bartholomew’s Road was cordoned off on Tuesday and a police evidence tent could be seen behind a white Toyota Prius, which had crashed into a black Range Rover.
Family supported by officers
Mr Miah’s family are being supported by specially trained officers, the Met said. DCI Whitten added: “If you were in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious, or have any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage that could support our investigation, we urge you to get in touch. No matter how big or small the information you have is, it could prove vital in helping us piece together the full circumstances.”
