A man is set to appear in court following an alleged glass bottle assault in Newcastle city centre. Police were called to Oxford Street shortly after 6pm on Friday, June 5, following reports of a disturbance involving three individuals.
Incident Details
It is alleged that a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck with a glass bottle. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and later discharged. A 24-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.
Charges and Court Appearance
Northumbria Police have confirmed that Steven Wright, 24, of no fixed abode, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Magistrates Court today, June 9.
The North East Ambulance Service also confirmed they were called to reports of an injured man on New Bridge Street. However, a spokesperson stated that the call was later cancelled by police, as the patient had been taken to hospital by alternative means.
This incident remains under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
