Man charged with attempted murder after stabbing at hotel

Abdifatah Yusuf Adani, 22, has been charged with attempted murder after a staff member was allegedly stabbed at a hotel in Surrey being used to house asylum seekers.

The charge was brought on Sunday, August 16, following the incident at the Stanwell Hotel the previous evening at around 6.30pm. The victim, a hotel worker in his 30s, was injured and is now in a stable condition, with his injuries no longer believed to be life-threatening.

Armed police response

Armed police were deployed to the hotel due to the nature of the incident and assisted with the arrest. An increased police presence has remained in the area following the incident.

Adani, a Somalian national, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Staines Magistrates' Court at 10am on Monday, August 17.

Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder said: “We understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers.”
