Man charged after Albert Dock wallet theft and knife incident

Lorenzo Vazquez, 39, of no fixed abode, has been charged with theft, possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and two counts of threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place following an incident at Liverpool's Albert Dock.

Incident details

At around 4:35pm on Wednesday, July 1, it was reported that a man had stolen a wallet from a man at The Colonnades, an apartment block with over 100 luxury flats and penthouses. Two witnesses intervened and worked with the dock security team to detain the suspect, who had a knife, until police arrived. No-one was seriously injured and the wallet was recovered along with the knife.

Police statement

Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim and members of the public who bravely intervened. I want to thank them and the dock security team, who also stepped in until officers arrived at the scene.” He added: “I want to take this opportunity to stress that Liverpool is a fantastic city, holding Purple Flag status as one of the safest cities in the world. We will never tolerate criminality, and we are determined to protect visitors, residents, workers and any other law-abiding people who have reason to be in our city centre.”
