A 33-year-old passenger has been detained after allegedly attempting to force open an emergency door during a Lufthansa flight from Bogotá to Frankfurt. Cabin crew and fellow travellers subdued him before the aircraft landed.
Passenger restrained after door tampering
The man reportedly left his seat and began rattling one of the emergency exits. Staff asked him to stop tampering with the door, according to the Daily Star, but the passenger ignored the warnings to such an extent that flight attendants were compelled to physically remove him, Bild reports.
Concerns aboard the Boeing 787 deepened when two fellow passengers were required to assist in restraining the individual. They ultimately succeeded in moving the man away from the door, allowing the journey to continue without further disruption, Lufthansa confirmed.
Arrest and medical transfer
Following arrival in Frankfurt, the passenger was taken into custody. He faces allegations of jeopardising air safety.
A police representative said: "Due to his condition, the man was taken to a nearby psychiatric hospital."
