A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and arson following an attempted robbery at a service station in Toxteth, Merseyside Police have said.
Police were called to the Essar petrol station on Sefton Street shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, October 6. It was reported that two men had tried to enter an office inside but failed and left empty handed.
A male member of staff, a man in his 40s, was repeatedly punched during the incident and suffered facial injuries, attending hospital for treatment. A female member of staff was pushed.
Suspects fled in car later found on fire
The suspected robbers fled the scene in a green Ford Puma with no number plates, driven by a third man. The car was driven onto Hill Street, where it was set on fire near a block of flats.
The man arrested has been released on conditional bail and enquiries remain ongoing, a spokesman said.
Police appeal for information
One of the suspects is described as a white male, around 5ft 4in tall and of large build, wearing a grey hoodie, dark grey trousers and dark shoes. The second male was described as around 6ft tall and wearing a dark navy tracksuit. Both had their faces covered.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton said: "The offenders in this case have shown a complete disregard for staff who were simply trying to earn an honest living, and left one requiring hospital treatment."
He added: "We are appealing for anyone who saw any part of this incident to contact us. If you saw a green Ford Puma being driven in a suspicious manner before or after the incident, or three males running from the car in the Hill Street area, we urge you to contact us."
