Owen Rhys-Jones, 24, appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving, and controlling and coercive behaviour. The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday evening when Rhys-Jones allegedly intentionally crashed a car on the A44 near Capel Bangor, Aberystwyth, in an attempt to kill his ex-girlfriend Jessica MacLean.
Court Proceedings and Charges
During the brief hearing, Rhys-Jones did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth. He was remanded in custody by Magistrate Taha Idris, who stated that the case must be heard at crown court. The case is scheduled to be sent to the crown court on August 3.
Prosecutor Simone Walsh outlined the crown's case: 'The crown case is that the defendant intentionally drove a moving vehicle into a BT telegraph pole.'
Police Investigation and Appeal
Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the single-vehicle crash, which occurred at around 8.50pm on Tuesday. A police spokesman said: 'We continue to appeal to anyone who may have been present in the area and may have information or witnessed the incident. We would like to thank the local community for their support whilst officers have carried out extensive inquiries and to those who have supported our investigation so far.'
Rhys-Jones, from Aberystwyth, faces additional charges of controlling and coercive behaviour. The court did not provide further details on the alleged coercive conduct.
