Former world champion boxer Liam Smith has appeared in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged attack on a night concierge at a luxury apartment building.
Alleged attack and charge
The 38-year-old from Liverpool was arrested after the man was said to have suffered serious facial injuries at The Blade on Silvercroft Street in Deansgate on September 13 this year.
Smith appeared in Manchester Magistrates' Court the next day charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent before being bailed, according to the BBC.
Next court appearance
He is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on October 19, where he is expected to enter a plea.
Smith, who held the WBO super welterweight title from 2015 to 2016, was due to make a comeback against Finnish boxer Ilaru Kujala at Varuboden Areena on September 4, but was forced to withdraw from the bout days before with a calf injury.
