Cole Turley, 18, who was jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years for the murder of 16-year-old Kayden Moy, has lodged an appeal against his sentence. The appeal was filed on August 4, just weeks after Turley was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.
Turley was jailed alongside Jay Stewart, 19, and a 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, following the trial last month. The family of Kayden received the news via email.
Family's reaction
Kayden's father, Paul Moy, said: "This morning we received an email telling us that our son's murderer, Cole Turley, has lodged an appeal against the 16 year sentence It's hard to put into words how devastated and exhausted we feel. Just when we try to find some way to carry on, we're dragged straight back into the nightmare. There never seems to be any peace or chance to heal."
He added: "We will never understand how someone who took our son's life can now ask for another chance. Sixteen years never felt like justice to us in the first place, and now we're faced with the possibility of having to relive everything all over again. Our son was robbed of his future, and we were robbed of a lifetime with him. That sentence can never compare to the life that was taken or the pain our family lives with every single day."

The murder
Turley, Stewart, and the 15-year-old stabbed Kayden to death at Irvine Beach on May 17, 2025. The trio, members of the Murray Boys gang from East Kilbride, travelled to the seaside town after discovering through social media that Kayden and his friends, who were linked to the rival Himshie group, were gathering there.
The trial heard how the teenagers arrived armed with weapons. Turley carried a large lockback knife, while Stewart had a police-style extendable baton. Kayden, who was unarmed, confronted the group before being pursued, causing him to fall to the ground. Turley stabbed him twice while Stewart brandished the baton and shouted "Murray Boys" before telling a witness: "He f*ing deserved it."
Aftermath
Footage shown during the murder investigation captured the three teenagers fleeing the beach moments after the attack. CCTV showed Turley leading the way while Stewart ran topless carrying a rucksack. As they made their escape, two of the boys put an arm around each other and one clapped his hands as they appeared to celebrate before slowing to a walk through Irvine.
Later that day, doorbell camera footage captured the trio running into a flat in East Kilbride, attempting to cover their faces with their T-shirts as they hurried upstairs. Jurors also heard evidence that Stewart, Turley, and the 15-year-old made up another rap about Kayden shortly after the attack. Fraser Wallace, a friend of Turley, told the High Court the trio repeatedly sang: "Kayden bop, Kayden bop, Kayden bop" and claimed Kayden had been "cheffed up".
