Farmer fined after tractor attack on neighbour's truck

A Ceredigion farmer who used his tractor to lift and move a neighbouring farmer's pickup truck has been fined and made subject to a restraining order after being convicted of criminal damage.

Incident on country lane

Ceredin Jones, 53, of Llanarth, Ceredigion, was sentenced at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on September 10, 2026, following a trial. Jones had pleaded not guilty to criminal damage to property valued at more than £5,000.

The court heard that on August 9 last year, Jones drove his Massey Ferguson tractor into Anwen Hughes' Fiat Fullback pickup truck before lifting it with the tractor's front loader and moving it about 20 yards along a country lane.

Damage and sentencing

The pickup was later written off after sustaining damage estimated at £5,000.

Magistrates imposed a restraining order preventing Jones from attempting to enter Hughes' farm or accessing the lane where the incident took place. The lane is owned by Hughes, although Jones has a right of way to access his own farmland.

Jones was also ordered to pay £650 in costs and a £150 surcharge.
