The disappearance of 72-year-old Susan Rhodes has left authorities and her family baffled after she vanished following a car crash in West Sussex.
Rhodes was involved in a minor collision on the A285 near Petworth on Tuesday afternoon. After exchanging details with the other driver, she was last seen walking away from the scene towards nearby woodland.
Desperate Search Underway
Police have launched an extensive search operation involving helicopters, drones, and specialist search teams. The rugged terrain and dense woodland have made the operation particularly challenging.
"We're extremely concerned for Susan's welfare," said Detective Inspector Mark Preston. "The circumstances of her disappearance are highly unusual, and we're exploring all possibilities."
Family's Heartbreaking Appeal
Rhodes' distraught family have made an emotional plea for information. Her daughter, Emily Rhodes, described her mother as "a kind, gentle soul who wouldn't just wander off."
"Mum was driving to visit a friend when the accident happened," Emily explained. "She was coherent when she called me afterward, just shaken up. This is completely out of character."

Witnesses report seeing Rhodes walking alone along the roadside shortly after the crash. She was wearing a light blue jacket and carrying a small handbag.
