Lewis Hawkes, 36, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with five counts of attempted murder after a series of alleged knife attacks in the Scottish capital on Friday, June 19. The Crown Office confirmed the charges are “aggravated by reason of having a terrorist connection.”

Emergency services were called to multiple incidents across Edinburgh after reports of violent attacks, threats, robbery, and vandalism involving a knife. The victims—five men aged 22, 22, 24, 27, and 29—sustained various injuries. Three were taken to hospital, though none of the injuries are life-threatening, according to police.
