Craig Larkin, 46, has been sentenced to five years in prison after police discovered heroin and crack cocaine in his possession when he ran from them in Bridgend while carrying a large clock.
Police chase and discovery
Larkin was seen walking with a woman in Bridgend in the early hours of June 13 while carrying a large clock. Police approached him and told him they were going to conduct a search. He then sprinted off, with officers chasing him as he attempted to discard items on his person.
Prosecutor Alex Orndal said Larkin discarded two jackets he was wearing, and when detained he was only wearing a t-shirt on his torso. A number of items were retrieved, including three scales, a mobile phone, a SIM card, a wallet containing pregabalin, and £110 in cash. Officers also discovered 19.2g of crack cocaine in a cling film wrap and 0.9g of heroin in nine wraps.
Court proceedings
Larkin, of St Patrick's Drive, Wildmill, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing with intent to supply class A drugs. The court heard he has 43 previous convictions, including six drug offences.
In mitigation, William Bebb said his client had been a habitual drug user and had been suffering with addiction for some time. The barrister said the defendant was not running a significant financial advantage and had been engaging in low level drug dealing. Mr Bebb said his client had a "difficult and deprived background" and had lost his employment as a result of the Covid pandemic.
Recorder John Philpott sentenced Larkin to five years imprisonment.
