Ronald Dowling has admitted causing the death of a woman and seriously injuring two others by careless driving. The 66-year-old entered guilty pleas at Newport Crown Court on Monday afternoon.
Guilty pleas entered
Dowling pleaded guilty to causing the death of Sharon Berry by careless driving, in that he drove a vehicle without due care and attention. He also admitted causing serious injury to Kim Dowling and Jane Beedell by careless driving on the same day.
Incident details
All offences took place along the A4042 New Inn, Pontypool on October 26, 2023. The court heard that Dowling, of Salop Street in Caerphilly, had previously been of good character.
Court proceedings
Her honour Judge Celia Hughes adjourned the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and a psychologist report. Dowling will next appear at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court for sentencing on October 9. Until then, he has been given unconditional bail.
Judge Hughes imposed an interim driving ban on Dowling. She warned him: “Be under no illusion, there is a very real possibility you will go to prison on the next occasion. I am not saying that to threaten you, but to advise you.”
