A senior police officer has authorised a dispersal order to tackle antisocial behaviour in Denton. The order, made under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, gives police powers to order suspects out of a specified area or face arrest if they refuse. It came into force at 4.40pm today and lasts for 24 hours.
Area covered by the order
The order covers Victoria Park in Denton, bounded by the perimeter of Crown Point North Retail Park, the motorway footbridge over M67, Queen Street, Acre Street, Duke Street, Stockport Road and Ashton Road.
The order was issued just days after most children started their summer holidays. It gives officers enhanced powers to direct individuals involved in, or suspected of being involved in, anti-social behaviour to leave the designated area for a specified period.
GMP statement
GMP said in a statement: "The dispersal order forms part of our ongoing commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing crime, and ensuring residents and visitors can feel safe in their local community."
