Seven British holidaymakers have been arrested after a violent brawl on the notorious Las Veronicas strip in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 11, left three people seriously injured, with one victim losing three teeth.
Police confirmed that the altercation broke out outside a nightlife establishment. The alleged perpetrators, aged between 21 and 34, reportedly caused serious injuries to three other British tourists. After the attack, the group fled towards a nearby beach, leaving the victims lying semi-conscious on the ground.
National Police officers who were at the scene quickly gathered descriptions of the assailants and located them on the seafront. The suspects were arrested almost immediately and have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities. No update has been provided on the condition of the injured.
The arrests mark one of the first major incidents in the area after authorities had previously cracked down on anti-social behaviour to improve its reputation. The incident comes amid growing local frustration over mass tourism, with residents complaining of soaring rents, inflation, and anti-social behaviour, warning that the island risks becoming a 'tourism ghetto.'
