The incident occurred in the first half when Vinicius Jr won possession from Scotland defender Jack Hendry and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Angus Gunn. However, referee Cesar Ramos, after consulting the pitch-side monitor at the behest of VAR, ruled that Vinicius had fouled Hendry in the build-up. The decision left Vinicius and his teammates incensed, despite the Real Madrid star going on to score twice in the match.
According to Brazilian publication Estadao, CBF president Samir Xaud filed the complaint, specifically requesting that Ramos not be appointed to any of Brazil’s remaining fixtures. The federation pointed to a “negative history” with Ramos, recalling that Brazil were controversially denied a penalty against Switzerland during the 2018 World Cup under his watch.
