Two brothers from Bolton have been arrested on holiday in Majorca after a taxi driver was attacked. The pair, aged 31 and 21, allegedly lashed out after being refused a cab back to their hotel near the resort of Magaluf.
Alleged assault details
The brothers were said to have first berated two female taxi drivers before a male colleague stepped in. After refusing to take the pair to their hotel for being too drunk, the taxi driver was allegedly spat at.
The older brother is alleged to have then punched and kicked the man in a frenzied attack as he lay on the ground, according to local police reports. The victim reportedly lost several teeth during the assault and was left covered in blood.
Arrest and court appearance
A colleague was also allegedly punched in the face by the younger sibling after trying to help the man. Civil Guard officers arrested the tourists after being called to the scene.
The incident took place at around 2.30am yesterday (October 1) in Palmanova, a short walk from Magaluf. The two brothers face charges of wounding.
Bail decisions
They were staying at the Hotel Sol Palmanova. The younger of the two brothers has been released on bail after appearing in court hours after the assault.
An investigating judge told the older man he was remanding him in prison, pending an ongoing criminal probe. He gave the opportunity to secure a provisional release on payment of £12,770 bail.
