Body found in search for missing girl, 14, sparks murder probe

Gwent Police have launched a murder investigation after a body was found in the search for a missing 14-year-old girl from Blaina. The discovery was made in the Duffryn Park area at around 10.10pm on Monday. Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the family of the missing schoolgirl, named only as Lilly, have been informed.

Circumstances of the disappearance

Lilly, from Blaina, was last seen on the High Street in the town at approximately 6.50pm on Saturday, June 20. Detectives described her as white, around 5ft 6ins tall, with a medium build and long black hair. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a long black dress and black sandals.

Police appeal and community impact

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas said: 'We understand that this will cause distress and concern amongst our communities. We have a large police presence in the area at this time as enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death. Our officers are here and available for you to speak to.
