Serial killer Rose West has been accused of attempting to sexually assault a fellow inmate at New Hall Prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The 72-year-old, who is serving a whole life order for the murder of 10 women and girls alongside her husband Fred, reportedly groomed a young prisoner for weeks before the attack.
According to a source, West befriended a woman in her 20s, offering help with chores such as cooking and sewing to gain her trust. The victim was described as vulnerable. The source said: 'Rose looks like a frail pensioner, but she is extremely dangerous - as this attack shows.'
Prison guards intervened quickly after the incident, and West was taken before a governor. She has since been stripped of privileges and confined to her cell for most of the time. The source added that inmates were shocked by the attack.
West changed her name to Jennifer Jones by deed poll in 2020. She has been held in a special section of the prison since her conviction in 1995. Her husband Fred died by suicide while awaiting trial. The UK Prison and Probation Service has been contacted for comment.
