Morgan Imrie, a social care worker in Lanark, has been removed from the register after taking a colleague's bank card without permission and using it to buy goods worth more than £37.
Incident details
Imrie was employed as a Care Assistant by South Lanarkshire Council when the incident occurred on or around March 3, 2024. According to a report from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), Imrie took the bank card from her colleague without permission.
She then used the card to purchase goods worth £26.20 at a Lanark shop, and later used it again to buy goods worth £10.93.
SSSC's response
The SSSC described the incident as "serious" in its report. It stated: "You took a colleague's bank card without permission and used it to buy goods for yourself on two occasions. The repeated use of the card over a short period shows that this was deliberate and dishonest, not accidental."
The report added: "It involved planning and the opportunistic misuse of another person's property. Once the theft was discovered, the card was cancelled. Had that not happened, it is likely that further unauthorised use would have followed."
Risk of repetition
Given the deliberate nature of the conduct and the absence of insight or remorse, the SSSC noted a real risk of repetition if Imrie were placed in a similar position again. The report stated: "In any care setting, particularly one involving access to service users' or colleagues' property or finances, there is a risk of further dishonest behaviour and resulting financial harm."
The report also noted that despite no previous concerns being raised about Imrie, she showed no insight, remorse, or apology for her actions. Her removal from the register came into effect on August 11.
