The parents of murdered teenager Kayden Moy have suffered more than any mum and dad ever should. They have endured the unimaginable pain of hearing that their much-loved son was stabbed to death on Irvine beach on a sunny afternoon.
They then had to go through the trial of two of his killers, whose supporters sneered and laughed as the court heard heart-breaking details of Kayden's last moments.
Now one of the three murderers has piled more agony on to Kayden's friends and family. Weeks after starting a life sentence, Jay Stewart has composed a sick rap whose lyrics glory in Kayden's brutal stabbing. A depraved video has also been produced where Stewart spits out the disgusting hate-filled song.
This behaviour is beyond the understanding of decent human beings. You can only wonder at the depth of hatred that drives a young man, having taken a life, to then brag about it in such a manner.
Hopefully, as his life sentence continues, this young man will slowly understand the enormity of his crime. And then he might begin to feel some remorse for the damage he has caused to the Moy family.
Wider question
There is a wider question that needs to be answered - one which affects all of us. As a society, how have we managed to produce young men with such evil in their hearts? A combination of internet-fuelled toxic masculinity and a culture of violent gang activity has proved to be a dangerous mix here in Scotland.
That will take a generation to fix, but we must begin the long road to recovery before more lives are lost.
Andy's on the job
Andy Burnham is determined not to make the same mistakes as his predecessor in 10 Downing Street. Sir Keir Starmer had a strong moral compass and a keen eye for detail but he lacked the ability to communicate his vision to the voters. The new Prime Minister, on the other hand, is determined to convince the country he will make life better for all.
A huge part of that vision is creating more highly skilled jobs in those parts of the country that feel left behind by the demise of heavy industry. That is why PM Burnham made yesterday's announcement about a new generation of nuclear submarines all about the jobs that it will support.
Here in Scotland, such jobs are desperately needed. So we hope that the promised economic benefits from this move will be felt across the country.
