Ghislaine Maxwell has mysteriously disappeared from the US Bureau of Prisons inmate roster, with her status now listed as 'Not in BOP custody' despite no public announcement of release or transfer. The convicted sex trafficker, known as Jeffrey Epstein's 'Madam', has been moved to Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security facility in Texas that also houses Elizabeth Holmes and Jennifer Shah.
The transfer comes as Maxwell intensifies efforts to secure a pardon from Donald Trump. She recently met privately with Department of Justice officials, including Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, to negotiate leniency in exchange for cooperation on the wider Epstein investigation. Her lawyer, David Oscar Markus, stated she is prepared to testify before Congress but only if granted immunity.
The House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Maxwell for a deposition on August 11 but has rejected her immunity plea. If conditions are not met, she will invoke her Fifth Amendment rights. Maxwell was sentenced in 2022 to 20 years for trafficking minors for Epstein between 1994 and 2004.
Trump was asked about a potential pardon this week and replied, 'Well, I’m allowed to give her a pardon. But nobody’s approached me with it.' Critics fear a backroom deal may be underway, with victims' advocates arguing any leniency would be a grave injustice. Epstein died in 2019 in a Manhattan jail cell, officially ruled a suicide.
