Damon Furmedge, 36, has been convicted of rape, assault, and two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour following an eight-day trial at Chester Crown Court. The court heard that Furmedge twice threw his victim, fully clothed, into a bath full of water and held her under the surface by her neck, leaving her terrified she would be drowned.
Brutal Attacks
The victim told police that during the first assault, Furmedge forced her into the bath while she was fully dressed and held her underwater. He repeated the attack a second time, causing her to fear for her life. The abuse did not stop there; Furmedge also strangled and subjected her to a campaign of threats, violence, and controlling behaviour that left her so frightened she considered taking her own life.
Police Praise Victim's Courage
Detective Constable Hannah Lamborn, from Northwich CID, commended the victim's bravery, stating: "The level of intimidation and violence was terrifying for the victim who wanted to report Furmedge but was scared of the repercussions. I would personally like to thank the victim for her courage in supporting the police investigation so that justice could be served."
Sentencing
Furmedge was found guilty on Friday, May 29, and has been remanded into custody. He will be sentenced on July 17 at Chester Crown Court.
