Disgraced former footballer Adam Johnson is engaged and planning his wedding with Stacey Flounders. The 39-year-old paedophile served half of his six-year sentence for child grooming and sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
Stacey had split from the former Manchester City and Sunderland ace during the trial, but having rekindled their relationship, the pair are now preparing for their wedding.
Family and friends 'over the moon'
A source close to the couple told The Sun: “Stacey and her inner circle have put Adam’s time behind bars well behind them and are really excited for the next chapter of their lives.” They added that their family and friends are “over the moon” for the couple.
They added: “They’ve been through a lot as a family and this feels like the perfect way to leave the memory of the hard times in the past and focus on a happy future with their two kids.”
Jailed in 2016, released after half of sentence
Johnson was jailed back in 2016, but only served half of his sentence. The winger expressed remorse upon his release: “I am very sorry for the effect my conduct had on those directly and indirectly involved. It should never have happened and I deeply regret what I did.
“I now want to concentrate on the future and want to demonstrate through my actions that I am committed to repaying them for their support.”
Relationship rekindled in 2020
Stacey was heavily pregnant with their first child during the trial, and despite claiming she would never take him back, the pair rekindled their relationship in 2020. The following year, they welcomed their second child.
At the time, an insider told The Sun: “She never hated him. He insists he has learned the error of his ways and has promised he will never cheat again. She thinks he is a brilliant dad.”
Johnson has not worked since he was released from prison, and the report suggests he is “set for life” after his Premier League career.
