Two police officers sacked over tasering of 92-year-old amputee

Two police officers have been dismissed for using excessive force against a 92-year-old amputee care home resident who was tasered and hit with a baton. The incident took place in St Leonards-on-Sea in June 2022.

Officers dismissed after IOPC investigation

Pc Stephen Smith and Pc Rachel Comotto have been sacked following the incident involving Donald Burgess, a 92-year-old dementia sufferer who is also an amputee. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed the dismissals.

During the ordeal, Mr Burgess said "I'm dying" as he was left petrified. The vulnerable man was tasered by police officers during the encounter.
