Tributes to soldier Liam after body found in River Tyne

Floral tributes and cards have been placed on Wylam Bridge after a body was recovered during the search for a missing 22-year-old man. Family and friends joined the search for Liam, who was reported missing after he failed to return home on Saturday (August 15) following a night out with friends on Friday.

Search and recovery

Northumbria Police, the HM Coastguard, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue teams carried out extensive searches for Liam. On Tuesday evening, officers confirmed that a body had been found in the River Tyne close to Wylam Bridge.

The force stated that while formal identification is yet to take place, Liam's next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specially-trained officers. Officers do not believe there to be any third-party involvement, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
