Post-mortem examinations have confirmed that four young brothers who died in a house fire in Sutton, south London, on 16 December succumbed to fire-related inhalation. The victims were Kyson and Bryson Hoath, both aged four, and Leyton and Logan Hoath, both aged three.
The fire broke out at a terrace house in Collingwood Road while the children were alone inside. They were rescued by emergency services but died shortly afterwards. Formal identification has not yet taken place, but police are confident they have identified the twins.
A 27-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of child neglect in connection with the incident has been released on bail until January. Tributes including flowers, teddy bears, balloons and notes have been left near the scene by local residents.
Ch Supt Dave Stringer, policing commander for Sutton, Croydon and Bromley, described the deaths as "a tragic loss" and said the Metropolitan Police's thoughts were with the family and friends of the boys. He added that detectives are working with the London Fire Brigade to determine the cause of the fire and investigate any other relevant matters.
