A three-year-old boy was among seven people injured in a shooting in Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday night. The shooting erupted on East Fayette Street around 9pm local time, and police swarmed the scene after the victims, including the toddler, were wounded.
Toddler rushed to hospital
The boy was promptly taken to hospital in the back of a police car rather than waiting for an ambulance. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley branded the gunmen as 'cowards' following the incident.
Police suspect multiple individuals were involved in the shooting, though the exact number of shooters remains undetermined. No arrests had been made immediately following the attack.
Mayor urges suspects to surrender
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott made a direct appeal to those responsible, urging them to surrender as the hunt for the culprits continues. He condemned the violence, stating "every single soul" in the city will be crying out for justice against those responsible.
"There is no way, to those individuals, there is no way for you to reclaim humanity after doing that," Scott declared during a press conference. "But if you want to try to save yourself and save your soul, turn yourself in."
The mayor added: "Everybody in the goddamn city should be looking for you."
