A three-year-old boy was shot and six other people were injured when gunfire erupted in central Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday night. The shooting took place on East Fayette Street at around 9 pm local time, with police flooding the scene after seven people, including the toddler, were wounded.
Police commissioner condemns gunmen
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley condemned the gunmen as 'cowards' following the shooting. The boy was swiftly taken to hospital in the back of a patrol car instead of waiting for an ambulance.
Investigation ongoing
Police believe multiple people were involved in the shooting, though it is yet to be determined exactly how many shooters were involved. No arrests had been announced in the immediate aftermath of the attack.
Mayor appeals to suspects
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has appealed directly to those responsible, urging them to turn themselves in as the search for those responsible remains ongoing.
