A Texas woman reported missing by her family has been discovered living with a group calling itself the Kingdom of Kubala in a forest near Jedburgh, Scotland. The woman, identified as Kaura Taylor, now goes by the name Asnat and serves as a handmaiden to the group's leaders, King Atehene and Queen Nandi.
In a video message, Taylor stated: 'To the U.K. authorities, obviously I am not missing. Leave me alone. I am an adult, not a helpless child.' It remains unclear when she was reported missing or why her family was unaware of her whereabouts.
The Kingdom of Kubala claims to be a lost Hebrew tribe whose ancestors were deported by Queen Elizabeth I. King Atehene, formerly an opera singer known as Kofi Offeh, said the group lives a simple life connected to nature and follows the laws of their god, Yahowah. They have been served eviction notices and suffered an arson attack on one of their tents.
The group asserts they do not recognise local laws and are reclaiming land they believe was stolen. Queen Nandi, born Jean Gasho, wrote on social media that they are 'returning to claim Scotland as our homeland' and that 'Jerusalem is in Scotland.'
Scottish Borders Council confirmed it is working with Police Scotland to manage the situation, providing advice on housing and support services. The number of people in the group remains unclear.
