A 15-year-old boy who died after a tree fell on him at a Staffordshire park has been named by his school. Brodan Dubickas was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident at Holmcroft Park in Stafford on Saturday evening.
Police, ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called to the park at around 6.30pm. Brodan, a Year 10 pupil at Sir Graham Balfour School and former student of Tillington Manor Primary School, was pronounced dead about an hour later. A police cordon remained in place on Sunday, with a blue tent erected within the area.
Tributes have been paid to Brodan, described as a "truly special young man" who was "kind-hearted, respectful and full of warmth". He was a keen football referee and pool player, having played for Stafford Falcons FC Under-16s and Staffs Bull 'A' in pool. A minute's silence was held in his memory at a Macclesfield FC Under-13s tournament on Sunday.
In a statement, Tillington Manor Primary School said: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to share the devastating news that Brodan Dubickas ... tragically lost his life in an accident at Holmcroft Park. Brodan will be remembered so fondly by all who knew him." The school added that support services would be available for pupils affected by the tragedy.
A friend wrote on social media: "Such a bright, nice lad with a bright future ahead of him. Can’t put into words how sad I’m feeling right now! Fly high brother, we will play pool together again some day."
Staffordshire Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
