A tragic incident unfolded at King's School in Winchester when a beloved teacher collapsed and died in front of her pupils during their GCSE examinations. The teacher, aged in her 40s, was described by colleagues and students as a 'sweet, kind, loveable, enjoyable free soul'. She passed away just minutes after pupils arrived at the school for their exams.
Emergency Response
An air ambulance landed at the school shortly before 9am on Thursday, May 14, after reports of a medical emergency. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed that a team comprising a doctor and two advanced paramedics was deployed by helicopter to the scene at 8:58am. Hampshire Police were called at 9:54am by ambulance colleagues and attended the incident.
A police spokesperson stated: 'Sadly a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed. Officers attended, and the death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.'
Tributes from Pupils
Hundreds of pupils paid heartfelt tribute to the teacher, who served as the head of business and computing at the school. Cards and floral tributes were left outside the school, with one card reading: 'You were a wonderful teacher and will forever be remembered. Thank you for always being kind.'
The school community has been left devastated by the sudden loss, and support is being provided to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
