Seven treated after A697 crash in Northumberland

Seven people were treated at the scene of a three-vehicle collision on the A697 in Northumberland. Emergency services were called to the crash at the A697 junction with the B6341 in Edlingham, Alnwick, shortly after 3.15pm on Monday 17 August.

Response and treatment

Two ambulance crews attended alongside Northumbria Police. Seven people were treated before being discharged at the scene. The road was blocked in both directions for a significant amount of time while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 3.18pm on Monday 17 August to reports of a road traffic incident on the A697 junction with the B6341 in Edlingham, Alnwick. We dispatched two ambulance crews and treated and discharged seven patients on-scene."

Earlier collision on the A1

The incident happened an hour after a three-vehicle collision on the A1 near Felton, which runs adjacent to the A697. The A1 was closed in both directions as a result of the first collision, and two patients were transported to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH), in Cramlington, for further treatment.

On the A1 collision, a North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 2.13pm on Monday 17 August to reports of a road traffic incident on the A1 near Felton, Northumberland. We dispatched two ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. Two patients were transported to NSECH for further treatment."
