In a dramatic interception at one of Britain's busiest ports, Border Force officers have thwarted a major firearms smuggling operation, uncovering a staggering arsenal of 61 weapons concealed within a car.
The incident unfolded at the Port of Dover when officials stopped a Polish national attempting to enter the United Kingdom. The driver, who presented himself as visiting for a family christening, raised suspicions during routine checks.
The Discovery
Upon searching the vehicle, officers made a shocking discovery: dozens of firearms meticulously hidden throughout the car's structure. The cache included 49 handguns and 12 stun guns, all illegally modified to fire live ammunition.
National Crime Agency (NCA) specialists were immediately alerted to the seizure, which represents one of the most significant firearm interceptions at UK borders in recent years.
The Investigation
Marcin Wozniak, 39, from Poznan, Poland, now faces serious charges related to the smuggling attempt. Investigators believe the weapons were destined for UK criminal networks, where they could have been used in violent crimes across the country.
NCA Branch Commander Mark Howes emphasized the gravity of the seizure: "Each of these weapons represents a potential threat to public safety. Preventing them from reaching the streets has undoubtedly saved lives."
Port Security Strengthened
The successful interception highlights the effectiveness of enhanced security measures at UK entry points. Border Force officials have intensified checks following intelligence about increased smuggling attempts through Channel ports.
Home Office representatives praised the vigilance of officers, noting that advanced detection technology combined with officer expertise continues to protect UK borders from serious organised crime.
Wozniak remains in custody awaiting trial, facing potential decades in prison if convicted on firearms trafficking charges. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the intended recipients of the weapons.
